MacMD Viewer is a native macOS app (~10 MB) that renders Markdown the way it's meant to look — headings, tables, code blocks, and diagrams, not raw asterisks and backticks. It's built for the read side of AI workflows: the .md reports, plans, and READMEs that Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Codex hand you.
The .dmg is free to download and a one-time $19.99 license key activates it on your Mac — no subscription, free updates within the major version. New here? Follow the six install steps below after the download finishes.
Installation guide
Open the installer
Open the downloaded .dmg file from your Downloads folder. You’ll see the MacMD Viewer icon and an Applications shortcut.
Drag to Applications
Drag the MacMD Viewer icon into the Applications folder. Close the installer window.
Launch the app
Open MacMD Viewer from Applications. macOS asks once to confirm you want to open an app downloaded from the internet — click “Open.”
Activate your license
Paste your license key and click Activate. You’re all set. Double-click any .md file to start viewing.
MacMD Viewer is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens cleanly on macOS 14+. There is no trip through Privacy & Security and nothing to unblock.
